Q.1 Do you play KQJ in a full game or QJ9 suited?
A.1 This is supposed to be a hi lo question. Without more information, I would discard both hands. if heads-up, I would play both hands.
Q.2 Which hand do you prefer in a 5 handed game? (Kx)K or (3,4)A (heads-up 52.5 %-47.5 %) ?
A.2 First let me explain, the odds for a hand of showdown don't mean much, unless you take the favorite and keep playing. With your hand example above, what happens when or if I hit an Ace on fourth? Does the KK fold? What if I hit a 5 on fourth? Does the KK fold? The real question is how the hands are played following the cards they receive on 4th or 5th.
Say I catch a 5, then a 7, does the KK fold? In most games I see, this doesn't happen, yet the KK has to put 3 large bets in to get one large bet back, provided I don't make a straight or Aces up. Being the favorite in a show down is far different from having bets to deal with. I can give you situations where you're the favorite before the draw and after the draw, yet you'll still lose.
fourth street: If the A34 catches badly, it loses a small betting unit and most likely folds it bet into. What does the KK do if the A34 catches well?
Q.3 player 1 has (x.x)K,9 player 2 has (x,x)4,5 you have (2,3)5,7
a. player 1 bets, player 2 raises
b. player 1 checks,player 2 bets
What do you do?
A.3 Call. I'm not even sure the supposed low hand is a low hand yet.
Q.4 What would you do if you had kings with k9 showing? try to force the second best low draw out? call all raises? see what happens on fifth street?
A.4 I wouldn't be in the hand with the K9 showing, unless I had trips on four cards. Take a position where both other hands are going low. What do you think is going to happen if the hands catch low on 5th? What about one of the hands? The KK now has a chance to lose a lot, yet win a little as the best he can get is half and being put into the middle is quite a possibility, especially if good players are in the game.
Q.5 Which hand would you rather have heads up 4456 or KK96 (49-51) ?
A.5 I would much prefer to start with 4456, as this game has a lot of deception in the correct play. Also, 6 low cards beat any pair without a low. Having a 5-6 board, against a 9-6 board will put the 9-6 board in a bad position, especially if the 5-6 board hits another low on 5th? What does he do there, especially if he doesn't pair? He may be looking at a complete hand with the best possibility being calling three large bets to get his money back if lucky. Which would you choose? Lose one large bet or call three more large bets with a possibility of only getting your money back?
Besides, all things being equal, you have already told the opposition you're going high and they adjust
Q.6 what is your idea of playing in this situation? :
4 4 5 6 26 % EQUITY
K K 9 6 32 % EQUITY
2 3 5 6 42 % EQUITY
if the 4456 manages to scare the KK92 out of the pot it becomes 49 % for the 4456 and 51 % for the 2356
A.6 I raise with the 4456 and put the KK to the test. Not only does he have to worry about the pot being capped, he has to worry about 5th and if the cards come low again and it's capped again. I would fold in a second, but I wouldn't be playing the KK either.
Q.7 Does pushing the kings out of the pot work often enough?
A.7 It doesn't matter. The KK will lose all the money anyway, as he will always lose the maximum and win the minimum. If he comes, the best he can expect is half, on the rare occasion all, but as a whole, he'll lose all his money getting into these situation where he is always calling and guessing.
Q.8 Would you let yourself get pushed out of the pot with kings?
A.8 No, I wouldn't have started the pot so they couldn't have pushed me out. If I played KK, I would want a scenario where I was up against other bricks or the opener.
Q.9 What about the 2356? is it better for him that it only goes two bets and both players stay in or should he help to push the kings out? Long term and short term implications for image bla bla bla...
A.9 The 2356 should cap the betting. The bottom line will tell the story. He's also in the position where he knows one of the players is going high, but doesn't know if the other is. It's in his best interest to get it one on one with the other low hand, as a single pair may win it all between lows or they're about even in the draw situation with dead money.
Q.10 who is the favorite on fifth street? 45677 or kkxxx with a 4 flush?
A.10 You state favorite, but there are two favorites in all hands, the favorite to win the money, the favorite to win the hand. It's best when you manage to be both. However, that's not always the case. With your example, it is the case. However, placing xxx there doesn't tell much. Are the xxx small cards or bricks? Can the person having the 45677 know for sure from the board whether the KK is going high?
